The Point
SCENIC SPOT
Located at the western tip of Bogue Banks where the ocean meets the inlet. One of the most photographed sunset spots on the entire NC coast. Great for shelling, kayaking, and paddleboarding — arrive early to snag parking.
Emerald Isle Woods Park
NATURE
A 41-acre shaded nature preserve with walking trails, a disc golf course, kayak launch, and sound access. Perfect for a morning hike or a quiet afternoon away from the beach crowds.
Kayaking Bogue Sound
WATER ACTIVITY
The calm sound-side waters are ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding. Launch from Cedar Street Park or Emerald Isle Woods Park and keep an eye out for dolphins, ospreys, and herons along the way.
Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier
OUTDOORS
A beloved local landmark open seasonally. Cast a line for king mackerel, speckled trout, and red drum, or simply walk out for the views. Surf's Up Grill is right at the base — great for lunch after a morning on the pier.
The Emerald Path
BIKING
An 11-mile paved greenway that runs the length of the island from Indian Beach all the way to The Point. One of the best ways to explore Emerald Isle — rent bikes locally and go at your own pace.

NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores
FAMILY
Just a short drive along Bogue Banks. Touch stingrays, come face to face with sharks, and walk the trails of the Theodore Roosevelt Natural Area. One of the best family attractions on the Crystal Coast.
Fort Macon State Park
OUTDOORS
A well-preserved Civil War fort at the eastern end of Bogue Banks. Walk through the historic fortification, explore hiking trails with ocean views, and enjoy the park's recreational beach. One of the most visited state parks in NC.
Hammocks Beach State Park

Take the ferry to pristine Bear Island — 4 miles of untouched barrier island beach accessible only by boat. One of the best shelling spots on the NC coast. Kayaking, wildlife watching, and primitive camping available.
Beaufort & the Crystal Coast

A charming waterfront town about 30 minutes away. Stroll the waterfront, visit the NC Maritime Museum, watch wild horses on Shackleford Banks, and browse local shops. One of the most scenic small towns on the entire East Coast.

- The best sunsets are at The Point Unlike most NC beaches, The Point faces west — true sunset over the water. Go any evening and bring a drink.
- Early morning is best for shelling Low tide at sunrise gives you the freshest selection. Bogue Inlet Pier area and The Point are the best spots to start.
- Rent bikes for the Emerald Path The 11-mile greenway is the best way to see the island — riding end to end takes about an hour.
